Life with boys...

This past weekend was a child's paradise! The weather was incredible, we were together as a family and we played with friends outside. Ahhhh, it just feels good.

Flying kites at the school. The wind was perfect!!

Then on to a new find--the "Newt Pond". We found more friends already there which added to our fun. This place earned it's name well as it is full of salamanders!

Our oldest is a master at catching whatever is on the agenda. Today was no exception!

Did I mention that while we call this a pond, the water is deceptively shallow with lots of silty mud. This is how I know! No comment on whether I did this on purpose or not. :)

Off to the creek to wash off, er, to have fun in moving water...

The day ended with a great walk back to our home and a promise to do it all again soon.

So we skipped a day, (Sunday) and then headed back with more friends! This time we knew what we were after and nothing was going to stop us!

Beware of other parents giving instruction to your children--as they might just listen!! Here our middle son obediently followed instructions after hearing a suggestion of putting it on his head! Thanks Evan!
We caught 17 salamanders before we headed to the creek. Have no fear though, no creatures were harmed in the filming of this event (gratefully!) as we are firm believers in "Catch and Release"! What a relief!

I just love these guys!!

After the creek we had our good friends Sue and Gary over for lunch and a game of softball (I was feeding our youngest so no pictures!!). So overall we had a wonderful time this weekend and tons more pictures of it all. Our boys were thrilled with all the water and creature activities which in turn thrilled the Big Guy Lowe and me. It's days like these that make you think that maybe, just maybe, you're doing some things right!

Glad I could participate. I was curious what species of amphibian we were actually encountering and I believe it is Taricha granulosa or Rough-skinned newt which happens to be one of the most poisonous of all salamanders. Fortunately, it has to be ingested to kill; hair contact is not known to cause problems.

Evan~ Thanks for the Newt info. I hadn't yet started checking but had planned on it. I guess we'll keep our catch and release protocol and not have those kabobs we were thinking of! :)

Okay, normally I'm insanely jealous when you are hanging around with anyone but me. This time, and I mean this in the nicest way, I'm glad I wasn't there.

I was wondering if there were any pictures of the Lowe Girl in this blog... Good thing there's this one at least.
