You want me to eat that?! YES!!!
Our oldest son is very particular when it comes to what food he allows to enter his body. Is it because he is keenly aware of his health? Maybe...not! Gratefully he is very healthy and growing like the handsome weed he is. While being particular regarding his food intake, he was positively influenced at school during a recent world food week where the kids were able to taste foods from different cultures. Some he tried, others he didn't. One of the foods he surprised us with trying was sushi. Now before you think he completely turned the corner on food choice, he did let us know that he took out all the veggies and anything else that he found other than the rice and seaweed "wrapper". He was so proud of himself, and truly, we were too!! Because of this we recently went out for sushi and made a special request for our oldest son--a rice and seaweed roll. We did have to explain it a few times and motion to our son for them to actually make it, but without waiting too long a dish of "special sushi" was sitting in front of him. Now I don't know if this actually counts as being sushi, but we were thrilled that he was eating food similar to what we were eating. We tried not to make too big of a deal of it until after he had eaten, but we did have to get at least one picture to commemorate the event. We've talked about traveling to other countries and that has always brought up the fact that we will be eating the food of the country that we are traveling in. While our oldest is very interested in other countries, eating food of that country has always slammed the brakes on the discussion. We consider this to be a big step!! Yea for progress!!

Days that I love, smiles in my heart
Today was one of those days that bring a smile to my heart. Nothing crazy or clever, just enjoying a day outside together. We worked, we ate lunch, we played. I found myself watching my family and feeling such gratitude in my heart. Our family is filled with many different types of days and amid it all we are blessed with love for eachother. I know families are forever and that Heavenly Father has made that possible. I am so grateful. I love my family and I am in love with my husband.

Our youngest longingly looking on as the others work in the yard.
The afternoon ends with lacrosse in the street. Oh the joy of Saturdays together...

Lego Land
Our oldest son loves Leogs. He's been building with Legos since he was a little over two years old (Grammy's house was a lego heaven for boys--it still is.) We were surprised when he was able to manipulate the tiny pieces and put them together, not taking long for him to begin actually building cars, planes, etc. As the years have passed his building has increased as has the size of the projects. He even is a member of the Lego Club and gets a magazine sent to him in the mail (we check way more than the every other month delivery rate!!) Now the Big Guy Lowe is very involved in the Lego activities of the house too, and the just younger brother wants to be in the thicke of it all as well.

We found out that our son rates the projects in their "Coolness" by the number of lego guys included in the project. This is a GREAT project!!

The thing I like about Legos is how they help our house be clean. Is that an odd statement?? Well, I've never seen the boys pick things up so fast as when I say that I'm going to vacuum. And as we all know vacuums are no respecters of Legos. ;)

I'll have a Power Ranger haircut, please.
This past year I had an epiphany (with the help of my husband)! Don't you just love it when that happens? The Big Guy Lowe made a simple suggestion of going to a local barber to have the boys get their hair cut. With that simple statement I was hit with an amazing feeling of release and freedom! I didn't have to keep trying to cut my boy's hair--there are people that are specifically trained and talented in that area, and when they are finished cutting hair it looks good! This could save me the stress of trying to do something that I have no clue about, I can feel pretty secure in the fact that the boys will look good when they are finished, and I won't feel the need to explain to strangers in the grocery store about why their hair looks like it does. Well worth the money spent. This past weekend was one of our trips. Our oldest son is a pro at the haircut. He requests a "Lego Mars", "Starwars", or a "Power Ranger" haircut. Isn't it amazing that the stylist knows what to do?!

Our middle boy chooses to have the Big Guy Lowe as his chair when it comes to haircuts. On top of that, he needs to have something in his mouth--generally a lolipop that is given out by the Barber shop. Can you imagine what that sweet treat is like as a two-year-old gets his hair cut?? Not something that I would want in my mouth, but we are strong believers in whatever works when haircuts are involved!

The final product: Handsome boys!

Dance Party 2009
The Lowe Down Littles Getting Down.
YEA!! I have the best Big Guy Lowe around! We've been trying to upload this video of our most recent dance party, but have been met with great disappointment--UNTIL NOW!! For your viewing pleasure, a little glimpse into a regular Lowe family activity. In case you are wondering, they get their moves from their dad...I still have mine (and I keep them hidden)!! :)
P.S. If you would like to hear what is going on in the video, pause the music at the bottom of the page--The Big Guy Lowe actually sings along for awhile (Hehehe)

From Father to Son
Saturday was a beautiful day in the Northwest! The sun was out and the day was just begging for some boys to come and play, or maybe it was the other way around...either way, sandwiches were packed, water was forgotten back home, and we all headed out for a hike down to our favorite spot on the Salmon Creek.

Once there, our two older sons watched with longing as the Big Lowe Man effortlessly skipped rocks in the river. One of the basic lessons of boyhood was about to begin.

Unfortunately, skipping rocks takes finding the right rock, standing just right as you swing your arm back and release with the perfect flick of the wrist, and most of all practice. We have many more days ahead of us to perfect this skill of unimaginable worth.

On the other hand, our littlest wasn't too interested in learning the ropes on skipping rocks, instead he was thrilled that he got to chew on his rock for a while. Oh to enjoy those types of pleasures again... We love being with our boys.

The Birthday Boy
As many of you know, the Big Lowe Man in our family loves cars. Last year for Father's Day I gathered pictures of his past cars, had them enlarged and then framed with an engraved plate identifying each of the cars--HE LOVED IT and hangs them in the garage (where they belong). So when car shows come to town, and this one happened to open on his birthday, we go. In this particular room at the show, my dearest car fanatic experienced a bit of a dilemma--what car would he choose next.
Would it be the new BMW M3(he has mourned the day he sold his mystic blue beauty),

the Audi S5

or the Porshe 997 C4S.
Ahhh, some of the fun choices life has to offer! We had a great time.
Then for dinner later that night, we made one of the big guys favorites--Eggplant parmesan (one of our recent cooking feats)! Here is our middle boy helping prepare the eggplant for cooking. Yea, we're starting the boys early. :)

Followed by the Lowe Family traditional birthday cake (can you see that the candles make a 33 on the top?
