J's calm haircut

There are those out there that might not appreciate the serenity of this photo.  In our house, we appreciate it!

J made it through his haircut without sitting on The Big Guy Lowe's lap, without crying and screaming and without making the poor lady cutting his hair cry.  Oh it was a good day!!!

(Please notice the lolipop stick showing in the mirror's reflection.)
Such a handsome little man!

New Haircut

For months we have been trying to help our youngest son get over his aversion to having his hair cut.  Alas, it has not worked.  In fact, the past three haircuts he has cried, screamed, and yelled enough to basically intimidate the poor women that have attempted to trim his curly lockes.  Our last attempt was so greatly foiled by his tirade that he barely had any hair trimmed at all.  It was then that I decided we didn't need to pay money to have our little guy scream in public just so The Big Guy Lowe and I could be humiliated!  Nope!  I decided we would just head over to Grammy's house and plead for her help until Big J was okay with having his hair cut.

Ahhhh, freedom!

Until this week.

I decided his hair, albiet cute, was just too long...a haircut was needed.

After tears, snot, screams, overall distress and skilled persistence by Grammy HB, our little guy now had a real haircut.
Don't let this cute, adorable, smiling little boy fool you.  This picture was taken hours later, after the red eyes had dried and the pain of the haircut was in the far-distant past.

Thanks Mom for your help.
What a darling boy.

Love him.

Such a little man

We are right in the middle of preparing for our HB family reunion held in Summerland, British Columbia. What a wonderful name for a holiday destination! I've been going to this same spot for our reunions since I was an early teen-ager. Part of the preparation for this trip was getting the boys hair cut. We already know that I don't cut their hair but leave that to the professionals. We weren't planning on this being our littlest's first cut, but everything seemed to fall into place and it ended up happening regardless! Because of this, I don't have pictures of the actual experience as I was trying to distract our littlest by feeding him itsy-bitsy pinches of gum while he was sitting on the Big Guy Lowe's lap. Here are a few shots taken the next day at, where else? The Creek!

Just to show that I am actually present during these trips, a quick picture with mommy!

Okay, we can't go to the creek and not show pictures of some of the fun, so here are a few from our day.

Our oldest had a friend come along for the day and they had a great time together.

What is that saying about a bird in the hand being worth two in the bush--does that relate to frogs in any way? (Two in hand!)

Everyone hard at work!

You know a good day of creekin' is pleasantly coming to an end when the natives start showing signs of weariness.

Ahhh, another good day at the creek.

I'll have a Power Ranger haircut, please.

This past year I had an epiphany (with the help of my husband)! Don't you just love it when that happens? The Big Guy Lowe made a simple suggestion of going to a local barber to have the boys get their hair cut. With that simple statement I was hit with an amazing feeling of release and freedom! I didn't have to keep trying to cut my boy's hair--there are people that are specifically trained and talented in that area, and when they are finished cutting hair it looks good! This could save me the stress of trying to do something that I have no clue about, I can feel pretty secure in the fact that the boys will look good when they are finished, and I won't feel the need to explain to strangers in the grocery store about why their hair looks like it does. Well worth the money spent. This past weekend was one of our trips. Our oldest son is a pro at the haircut. He requests a "Lego Mars", "Starwars", or a "Power Ranger" haircut. Isn't it amazing that the stylist knows what to do?!

Our middle boy chooses to have the Big Guy Lowe as his chair when it comes to haircuts. On top of that, he needs to have something in his mouth--generally a lolipop that is given out by the Barber shop. Can you imagine what that sweet treat is like as a two-year-old gets his hair cut?? Not something that I would want in my mouth, but we are strong believers in whatever works when haircuts are involved!

The final product: Handsome boys!
